In real life: Étienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire. This famous zoologist (he had won fame for his evolution theories) was assigned with the difficult task of escor- ting Zarafa from Marseille to Paris, and that means: 500 miles of walking, of quick walking, considering the fact that each of Mme Zarafa’s giant strides measured 7 ft.
